Javanese Tradition Bride Inspired Makeup

Hi guys! So today I'm doing an Indonesian culture inspired tutorial. I was doing a makeup for a client yesterday who had a traditional Javanese bridal shower and it sparked this idea. I'm not particularly good at this and I was just expressing my self and honouring my country's culture, so I hope you guys enjoyed the video :)

In Javanese tradition, there are many types of brides depending on the ladies' home tribe. There used to be a lot of different makeup styles depending on their home, but nowadays the makeup looks similar for most Javanese traditional bride. 

The black pattern on their head is called a paes. The elegant design is a symbol of maturity and it is also believed to castaway any bad thoughts and spirits from the bride.

Many makeup artist conduct fasting the day before the bride's big day because they want to cleanse themselves from any evil spirit as the application of the paes is a sacred ritual.

The brides wear their hair up in an updo called gajah ngolig. The elegant hair styles is big and majestic, decorated with lots of gold accessories.

The paes is typical a solid black color rimmed with gold, but for my look, I made patterns inspired by batik designs and the colors normally associated with the bride's wedding dress.

Batik patterns includes a lot of small details with a symbolic meaning to each of the design, since I'm not too good with precision, I decorated my batik design with beads and rhinestones. Flowers are a common picture in ladies' batik as it is a symbol of beauty.
